Warner library Meet the Autor Day, May 9

Third Annual Meet The Authors @ Warner Library
Readings, Signings & Discussions on May 9th from 11am to 4:30 pm

It will be a full day of readings, signings, Q&A and even Broadway musical numbers on May 9th at Warner Library in Tarrytown as 13 local authors and poets come together to share their stories and broaden your horizons. Co-sponsored by the Friends of Warner Library and the Hudson Valley Writers’ Center, this all-day event is sure to be a lively literary gathering you will not want to miss!

There will be a Children’s portion of the day beginning at 11 am in the library’s Children’s Room on the lower level of the library. Come early for some milk & cookies and then find a good spot to listen to the captivating stories of Anik McGrory (Kidogo, Animals Sleep, & for older kids, Mighty Monty), Lloyd Moss (Zin! Zin! Zin! A Violin!), Waithira Mbuthia (My Sister’s Wedding, A Story of Kenya), and Eric Velasquez (Grandma’s Records, The Rain Stomper).

The Teen (and Tween) portion of the event will take place in the library’s Teen Area, Connections, from 1:00-3:00. Jason Eaton will kick off this segment reading from his recently released book The Facttracker, followed by Staton Rabin, the author of Betsy and The Emperor (soon to be a movie starring Al Pacino as Napoleon Bonaparte) and The Curse of the Romanovs. 2008 National Book Award winner, Judy Blundell, will wrap up this portion of the event reading and answering questions from her captivating novel What I Saw And How I Lied.

The Adult line up for the day will take place from 12-4:30 in the Reading Room and upstairs event room and will include readings and discussions by Neal Rechtman (The 28th Amendment – a “future political thriller”), new media and popular culture author Douglas Rushkoff (Life, Inc.), and poetry by The Hunter Avenue Poets comprised of Barbara Fischer, Meredith Trede and JoAnn Clark.

The event will close with a musical performance featuring author Carol de Giere, accompanied by acclaimed vocalists Carole Demas (original Sandy in Grease on Broadway) and Lara Janine (Wicked), performing songs from Pippin, The Baker’s Wife and Wicked. The author and singers will be sharing stories about Broadway and the many interviews included in Defying Gravity: The Creative Career of Stephen Schwartz.

Out in front of the library, attendees will be able to purchase books and engage other local authors "under the tent" for a more informal exchange. The Village Bookstore from Pleasantville will be on location throughout the day selling the books of participating authors for signing.
